Internet to consume half of worldwide electricity soon

2/27/2020

Take pictures, post on social. Surf, stream, navigate.
Picture
It is exponentially increasing. More people are using the internet and they are using it more. There are 5 billion people with mobile handsets and 3.6 billion of them use the internet on their mobile devices. Fixed networks, internet cafés, the total internet user population is 4.5 billion people.
Picture
The total electric energy consumptions of humans (the whole world) is 23,000 Terawatt hours (TWh) as of 2020. Many sites and research suggest internet and communication technologies use about 10% of the electricity. Networks around the world fixed and wireless is 1,000 TWh. Consumer devices use about 1,500 TWh. Data centers 500 TWh. Production of ICT 400 TWh. The total is 2,400 TWh. British Nature Science Journal 12 September 2018 article puts it in a very neat graph below.
Picture
If we continue at this pace Nature predicts 20%, other sources predict 50% of world electricity will be consumed by internet and communication technologies.
Any suggestions?

Excerpt from the article go ahead and read the whole article here at the below link , it really is inspirational. Good luck in your resolutions this year.

"In order to move forward in your life, you’ll need to embrace difficulty and uncertainty — or what you might typically consider anxiety.

It may seem like a long list. But in short, it’s really quite simple:
  • Wake up
  • Get confidence and motivation
  • Get inspired and connected
  • Get perspective
  • Get moving
  • Act courageously
  • Move powerfully toward your dreams

The potential to connect people at a deeper level through first person experiences

I wrote last month “Mobile data deprivation: ‘roaming’ — model needs updating” here is the link if you missed link … more on that later …here it comes.
Picture

What is the biggest promise of mobile data 5G , Qualcomm calls it a “new era of connectivity”. Ericsson expects 40% of the world to be connected to 5G in less then a decade…
Picture

Remembered wearing my first bluetooth Sony Ericsson earpiece and walking the streets of New York, London almost a decade ago. Many people thought , I was a lunatic talking to myself. Now, walk in the streets of Manhattan everybody is talking to themselves. Nobody thinks you are mad. Maybe we are all mad , who knows thanks to Airpods and the like.
Picture
Airpods
About a decade later many experts expect that it would be a common place thing to see people wearing AR (augmented reality) glasses or VR (virtual reality) headsets walking in the streets of New York, London, Seattle, Istanbul, Tokyo, Paris or Hamburg.
Picture
Vuzix 100 AR Glasses
It might sound far wetched but it really is not. There are great products out there that incorporate all the AR features. Vuzix above is one great example, I will not go and review product now , since this is not the topic of my article. These kind of products give the user the capability to experience the real world with information overlayed into the users vision. Mind you, AR glasses have the potential capability to capture and stream audio visual data from first person perspective.
Picture
Oculus Go VR Headset
VR headsets, on the other hand, is an immersive experience. VR technology enables video and audio to be spatially correlated and computed to mimic real world for the user’s brain.
I was able to experience Oculus and other VR headsets in GSM World Congress and New York City at different ocasions. The experience is mind boggling. 3D video and 3D audio impulses stream into the brain through the eyes and ears make the brain think this stuff is real.

I postulate that in near future international travelers equipped with AR glasses could stream experiences from their destinations back to their home country. Hence, friends and family equipped with VR headsets will enjoy the fellow travelers “foreign” experiences. This would be a higher level connection and a first person experience streaming and a new era for the human kind.
People any place on earth will experience other peoples pleasures and pains in “foreign” parts of the world through elevated levels of comprehension . It would be possible for them to experience and maybe even possibly to relate to those “foreigners” through fellow traveler’s eyes.

Qualcomm’s vision a new level of connectivity is great and I comprehend it with a new spin. And like Ericsson, I expect more people to be connected to 5G even if they are in a different country.
The only issue remaining is to create a stable commercially viable and cost effective international data connection to those AR headsets as agents of change or first person experiencers. And trawell data is here to fix that problem. We are ready to tackle this challenge as Trawell team, and we are happy not to be alone Rocco has listed many ARPs trying to tackle the problem along with us, here is a link , and here is the Well Connected series link Rocco Interview with Trawell Data CRO Sibel Gazozcu, the creator of Roaming Handbook.

Mobile data deprivation: ‘roaming’ — model needs updating

11/12/2018

To refresh our minds GSM first ever speech was made on the Sonera network in Finland December 1991. I was one of the few lucky individuals to join in on the so called mobile revolution in the early heydays. Now called Telia company was the father/mother of GSM. https://www.teliacompany.com/en/about-the-company/history/telia-sonera-and-teliasonera/
Picture
Telia Sonera Logo after merger
Roaming model was invented in the early days of GSM to enable travelers to go around freely and still be able to use their mobile phone while going to another country. It had to imitate the model based on the SS7 model, that was the basics of telecom from Bell lab days.
If the call attempt was made the network will ask the home network operator about the capabilities of the handset owner and hence enable the individual handset as to what it can perform. It was the same case for voice and then for data. Then the reconciliation between different network operators happenned through intermediaries called the clearing houses.

It was a great and innovative model. It served the purposes well. It was amazing to be able to go to another country and make a call as if you were home. But this was 20 years ago…
After many changes and betterments on top of the original model the crux of the matter prety much stayed the same. The SS7 type of mentality prevailed. Today still, when a subscriber makes a call the same type of mechanism works. Even, in todays IP world, as everything is delivered almost locally at the point of consumption, the roamer is directed to the home operator DNS servers each time he clicks a link within his internet browser for IP resolution and the latency kicks in, the consumer experiences less than ideal latency times.
To top it of the commercial model of doing business suffers. I will touch upon this with some numbers, below is a visualization of the models financial output as we look out to the globe, thanks to trawell data people.
Picture
thanks to trawell data research http://www.trawelldata.com

Global world wide mobile network traffic per month is 17 exabytes per month this data is created by 5.2 billion mobile subscribers around the world hence average monthly individual use of data on mobile networks is a bit over 3 GB per month according to Statistica, OECD average is a little shy of 3 GB per month. However, mobile data while roaming is in the 100MBs to 200 MBs range per travelled month.

Consumers found many solutions already for this problem, it is inconvenient but real. Instead of drinking important water , consumers that are travelling buy local water, that i sthey buy local sim cards.Like the T-Mobile prepaid card for tourists https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/prepaid/marketing/prepaid-international-tourist-plan
Picture
Tourist Prepaid SIMs as advertised on T-Mobile web site

Yes they loose their numbers , yes they have to cary the original sim in their pocket and not loose it. Hey, instead of paying $10 , $20 dollars per day … 80% of the world travelers are not using the convenience of mobile data while roaming like they do at home. They have purchased local Sim cards from the local mobile operator. They cary around a second phone sometimes. They do rent wifi hot spots.

The need is simple : ‘I want water tastes and costs like the water I drink at home.’ Isn’t data like water more or less? People drink water 15 times a day or so. How many times people check their phones? 80 times according to many research. The data deprivation while traveling internationally called roaming has caused consumers on a global scale pain. Normally, traveling increases data dependency , one needs to find new places, drive to unknown directions, convert currencies and share beloved ones memories and share experiences. It should be safe to assume increase will be twice (2x) as much. Hence, instead of the postulated 6 GBs, consumers spend 100 Mbs or less or some 80% not at all. If this is not deprivation what is?

The mobile industry has produced 5% of world economy, with its impact on other ecosystem partners so far. Immersing travelers into the experiences of other lands gives us humans, another opportunity to connect human kind at a deeper level especially with the promise of 5G , augmented reality, streaming experiences via Oculus Go type of headsets. So this could give help resolving problems of a troubled world. More on that later in this series…

Artificial intelligence …quantum computing .. end of human race?

“Every person on Earth would have to do a calculation every second of every day for just over four years to match what an exascale machine will be able to do in a flash.” by Martin Giles July 11, 2018 in MIT Technology Review
These are the headlines behind quantum computing, fuzzy logic rather than 1s and 0s or a state in between like our brain does. It is faster , more efficient.
The possibilities are endless like with every new tech. We can model the universe, we can understand the layers of atmosphere and create better models of our worlds weather behaviours and hence be better prepared. We can model the behaviors of mass populations around the world. We can possibly model and understand the roots of hatred that originates from differences between people and the has its spreaders on the internet. Patterns of bird migration, spread of deaseases and many other things about the needs and wants of the human species. As humans we can possibly solve more problems.

I have recenly watched on Curiosity Stream several episodes about the Stephen Hawkings Favorite places in the Universe Episode. https://curiositystream.com/series/340 actually the series was completed after his death. In episode two I believe , Hawking ends up on planet that was destroyed / protected by super powerfull AI machine life form. The AI life form decided to kill the bilogical lfie form thinking that it was harmful and inferior to AI life form.

Expand global. Excel local.

Have met and partnered over the course of my career many great entrepreneurs. They created businesses, products , services. Some of them in their 20s some of them late 50s. All of them had one theme in common at one stage in their business journey. Do I have to scale up and beyond and go global?Or excel local first.
For many, it is a scary thought to go do business in a foreign country. Doing business in country that that you might not speak the language of. Different alphabets? Customs, cross border trade , regulations, cultural differences, political ups and downs.
On the downside, global arena is intimidating, it is unfamiliar, unpredictable and confusing at times. The way different cultures comprehend time, social responsibility , performance and ethical code of behavior change on a large bouquet of colors. It almost makes the behaviors of your counterparts challenging to comprehend.
On the upside however, it is a world full of wonders. Great people with great ideas. Some-ideas , even in todays global village take time to be implemented across borders. New perspectives brought into a culture carried over from another cultural origin makes impactful and creative changes to businesses and lives of others in that culture on a positive way.
Picture
All in all on a last count , I realize that I have done business in 20 countries so far. Some developed world countries , some developing world countries. Different cultural backgrounds, religions , races. Different climate conditions -40 degrees celcius /fahrenheit all the way to 50 degrees celcius / 122 fahrenheit. Humid - dry. Fast to slow. Made and lost money in some, the experiences that make me understand the world better today contributed to my journey in business life.
Each of the dimensions… excelling and conquering the world… To bring strength to both of the dimensions require resources. The paralel fulfillment of strengthening both dimensions in a balanced manner is doable. Learning from international expansion efforts and excelling and contributing to product and service specs on one of two chains and excelling in product specs to go after global conquest on the other chain. Both intertwined and inseparable like the DNAs two chains coiling around each other.
A team comprised of inherited international business DNA with top area specific know how. Team mates that have done business in 3 or more countries was a selection criteria was the recipe I used when I have establishing my latest company on my conquest to make the world a better place.

Humans & universe, superstring theory

7/20/2018

Human mass is so small. 100 billion trillion times smaller than earth. Earth on the other hand compared to Milky Way, our very own galaxy, is equivalent to 0.1 million trilionth of Milky Way.
When you look up at the sky, you see it, beautiful Milky Way hosts 250 billion solar systems like ours.
Picture

A very broad comparison with an error in the magnitude of hundred, the size comparison of all of humanity living on earth versus earth is is almost equivalent comparison of earth to milkyway.
To put it in perspective again there are about 250 billion solar systems like ours in Milk Way alone. There are 100 billion galaxies in the universe like our milky way.
Picture
dark matter (credit: Volker Springel/Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics/SPL)
So far discussion is only about matter. Matter is thought to be a tiny fraction of the cosmic fabric of the universe, roughly 4% . The rest is dark energy and dark matter, we do not yet know what that really is.

I was at Albert Einstein Planetarium in Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. with my kids and family . We enjoyed the beautiful Dark Universe show. The map of dark matter in the planetarium made me think, it was something like above, I will come to that in a minute.
Superstring theory posits that the universe is made up of ten dimensions ( further reading click), humans think of themselves as four dimensional beings.
Would it be possible to think that “dark matter map” is the visualization from our four dimensional universe perspective of the higher dimensions posited in the superstring theory.
Would it then mean that dark matter is a way of naming all other dimensions from our own perspective? Mind you, humans thought sun was rotating around them for the longest time.

What is the next step in human evolution for communication?

6/21/2018

Telecom industry mobile telephony was invented in the early 90s. First GSM communication was the invention of Finish Sonera, now happens to be part of TeliaSonera after the merger of Telia and Sonera. Happy to be one of the few indivuduals to see the revolution it brought to peoples lives. Phone calls became a tap and reach kind of experience accross 100s of miles, and then came the smart phones instant messaging. Milenials instant gratification coupled with intelligently designed user experiences made Snap, Bird huge successes.
Men machine interfaces like AI chatbots, voice enabled asistants is the next wave making ubiquitous always on end user experiences.
Picture
pixabay CC0 license
The mobile operators represent today roughly US$ 1 trillion industry, and about 2% of the world economy and 50% of the revenues come from data revenues. Needless to say out of country experience is very inferior to the at home country experience. You got struck by big bills or inferior network and speed qualities due to the invention of the so called roaming “tariffing”. One of the investments , I am busy managing is trying to create a complimentary model to create a better and a ubiquitous experience travelling across country borders that is trawelldata. Google and SpaceX of @elonmusk have new ways to create a better experience to enable ubiquitous computing for humanity loon or spacex satelites . Good challenges although not touching billions in the coming few years.
Picture
pixabay CC0 license
Let us assume these attempts fill the gap and enable abundant data. My next argumentation and questioning is along new thought lines.

Let us make these assumptions as well. Voice interface accuracy is so high almost 95% in great companies around the world. AI is improving very rapidly more meaningful results is going to be produced. The first actual connection of human brain was made about a year ago. Internet brain interfaces popping everywhere.
Picture
pixabay CC0 license
We have data, rapid almost always on connection to internet (abundance of knowledge) and computing power at the same time and access to billions of other brains to communicate at the speed of thought.
So is this the new evolution of humanity … what are the outputs of such a mesh network…

İşyeri ve sosyal medya (TURKISH)

10/27/2017

LinkedIn ‘in iş başvuru süreçlerinde kullanımı.
